Four Days of Amazing Chicago Sights Caught in Photos

Over a span of four days, there was a full moon, followed by record high waves braved by surfers, a windsurfer caught in the deep waters, and skies that turned gorgeous hues of gold, orange, pink and purple.

The full moon this month falling on September 20th, wasn’t a supermoon, but it was magnificent none-the-less. It is also one of the moons that has the most names.

As it’s the full moon closest to the fall equinox, it’s most commonly known as the Harvest Moon, as farmers sometimes need to work late by the light of the Moon to harvest all their crops before the first frost occurs. But it is also known by a number of other titles including, the Fruit or Barley Moon, the Corn Moon, the Sukkot Festival Moon, the Mid-Autumn, Mooncake, or Reunion Festival Moon, the Chuseok Festival Moon, Imo Meigetsu or the Potato Harvest Moon, the Pitri Paksha Moon, the Honey-offering Festival Moon; the Binara Pura Pasalosvaka Poya. More recently, it’s been called the GRAIL and LADEE Moon, named for two lunar robotic missions launched in September.
