I remember my mother constantly teaching me ways to keep myself safe both in terms of sexual assault and getting attacked when alone or getting into my car. She went over it and over it and mentioned it frequently so that there were things I never did, a whole list of them, to avoid getting hurt or worse. She told me about stories she'd read in the paper and when she did she would go over all the strategies again. But I guess parents don't do this anymore. But if they don't and want to leave the tough conversations up to the schools they can't then ban such discussions and readings. It's burying your head in the sand and hoping for the best. I have to read this book.
